just a few things that made it home from the market…

Tomatoes | Strawberries | Garlic | Ginger | Onions | Hummus

So, even though  the prepared foods are a no, I fall victim.  I don’t know why I buy the hummus.  I have to do so much to it when I get back to work to even make it edible.   Why are people so heavy handed with the tahini?  Sheesh.  It’s like a science experiment, figuring out the right proportion of salt, pepper and lemon juice that will save me from the same mistake.  I just keep trying to recreate the feeling of the garlic artichoke hummus from the guys at Pershing.  It’s smooth with the acid bite.  It’s so garlicky that you really shouldn’t speaking to, you know, people for a while.  Even after you brush.  It is so good.  I just sighed thinking about it.

Ooooo, I have a dental appt right across the street from Pershing this week on the same afternoon as the market.  Oh, Good Hummus.  I can’t wait.  You are so worth it.

just a few things that made it home from the market…

Strawberries | Tomatoes | Pita | Hummus

The hummus didn’t make it home.  It wasn’t even good, but I was hungry.  All tahini-heavy without any garlic bite or acid kick, I should have just had fries or a(nother) pint of strawberries.  I have to stop spending money (♥: and time and energy) on things that I know probably won’t make me happy.  It’s like I keep taking the class, but have trouble implementing the lesson.  It’s time to be more mindful about planning ahead, especially since I prefer my own chickpea dip/spread.

Making the commitment to treat myself better emotionally, physically, intellectually and spiritually means that I have to pay much more attention to how I get fed and how I stay happy.

just a few things that made it home from the market…

Ginger | Cherries | Peaches | Garlic | Onions | Peas | Thai Basil | Chinese Broccoli | Kale

Yeah.  The cherries and peaches are gone already.  Artichoke hummus, too.  It didn’t even make it home for the class picture.

I was just in one of those “Dude. Yes, feed me.” moods.  Plied with samples, I couldn’t resist.  I bought the artichoke hummus and it barely made it to the office fridge.  I tried to keep my Alice Waters-ian breathy enthusiasm to a minimum.  ‘Cause breathy and garlicky are confined space crowd pleasers!  But, man, was it gooood.

This weekend, I’ll be stocking up on Goya chickpeas and finally get my ‘choke on. (♥: Umm, that sounds…) Ohhh.  Right.  If they’re still in beautiful abundance, I’ll be picking up some artichokes at Hollywood on Sunday. (♥: Better.)

It’s gonna be a hummus summer.  I can feel it.
